Let's talk a little about google today. I recently heard about google buying up a ton of dark fiber; for who knows what. Then I just read that their starting a free citywide wireless in San Fran. Makes sense now, but what can they be planning, what’s up their sleeve now. Their employees are encouraged to use 20% of their work week to work on independent projects. Now of course your ideas are now owned by google, but can you imagine the ideas that are kicked around. Why are all of their projects still beta, is anything running out of beta yet. They keep everything so simple, easy to use and it appeals to basic users to guru's. The only close search engine in comparison is MSN and its sucks. As everyone should know, watch them closely, something huge is coming. Maybe an acquisition of some sort, I can only imagine. Just think of the possibilities, dark fiber, high speed broadband access, IPTV, the google channel - A company that’s gonna swallow the rest....

Office Space: Extra Special Edition

BEST BUY: Office Space gift set...includes all your necessary supplies including the infamous RED STAPLER...finally milton will find it!

read more | digg story

I recently came across an article from Consumer Reports about anti-spyware software. I can't believe they rated a product from Microsoft #1. First off this only seems to find less than a quarter of what is removed by Ad-aware or Spybot. Spysweeper finds even more than all the others products added together. I wonder who is supposed to have an unbiased opinion here. Maybe they rate it like that because it's free, but I would rather invest $30 in a product that is going to work like spysweeper. I bet this same organization would vote M$ firewall the best also, what a joke. Anyone who uses Windows relays on third party software for security. If your not then plan on having problem in the near future. Microsoft needs to be more aggressive with some of their products, and when they come out with their A/V product I'll make sure to remove it. Spysweeper is they best piece of software thirty bucks can buy. Yah it finds a lot of traces, but these are all files that I don't care to have. Also I don't even see a mention of Symantec's product, which may not be that good, but it's sure better than MacAfee garbage. I use Symantec A/V and Spysweeper, run sweeps weekly and spyware isn't an issue for me.

I recently came across a post on digg.com about using a proxy server to divert your web traffic at work. This article went on to discuss how to basically bypass you corporate network firewalls or whatever device filters internet traffic. It also claims that this leaves no trace or evidence of where you have been. While the last claim is true, there are still several issues why you shouldn’t attempt this at work. First off if you work for any type of place that has a half way decent IT dept there is some sort of policy in place. This policy states what is permitted and not permitted internet activity, and all employee's should have agreed and signed off on this. Now the IT dept has a responsibility to also block as best they can this un-allowed activity. Now if you can access something that may be un-allowed, you can still be held accountable. If you plan to view adult websites, download P2P, or just waste hours online with non-work related content you have issues. These are the only reasons you may want to attempt what’s described in the article. Now to the good stuff. The author fails to inform the public on simple thing. They want you to use a different port to connect via OpenSSh to your proxy. The OpenSSh traffic is encrypted except for the client server greeting. Your IT dept dept can configure their IDS to look for this traffic, and log such. Now if the policy you signed states that’s as un-allowed activity your done. Even so if your bypassing setup restrictions and they have proof, game over. Now who wants to risk their job and lively hood over web surfing. We all should have unrestricted high speed connections at home. Check out the article, sorry this was a long one.
Digg artile

How the vi editor would look if it had been made my Microsoft

See how things might have been if Microsoft had done vi. I recently picked up a new laptop. My choice was the Sony Vaio T350, check it out at sony.com. This is part of Sony's ultra portable series with a 10.6 widescreen LCD with XBRITE Tech, looks very good and is an excellent portable DVD player. Running with a Intel Centrino 1.2 GHz and 512 Ram this thing runs for an impressive four hours on a charge. Has all your wireless needs, 802.11G, Bluetooth, and WWan a Cingular wireless network. This thing is great for just regular use, I can't believe how long this battery lasts either. The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, but that only takes a few hours. Everywhere I take this thing out people are surprised that it's a laptop. This thing even has DL DVD writer and a <st1:street st="on"><st1:address st="on">60GB Hard Drive</st1:address></st1:Street>. Some of my favorite things to do with this is sitting down on the couch watching TV and browsing, the wardriving possibilities with this are endless. With a USB GPS and running Network Stumbler you find some very interesting access points. I can't believe how many people don't enable encryption. Well finally this laptop is really cool at about 3.5 lbs, and smaller than a notebook you can take this thing anywhere. A four hour battery for those long trips, awesome.....

I know it's been awhile, but you all know how it is. Just watched a webcast of the new Windows Vista, hosted by PC Magizine. There wasn't any real shocking information but interesting if anything. Some of the new security concepts look cool though. I like the idea of virtual folders, enhanced firewall that blocks outbound traffic, prompting prior to running an admin task. Also users will have limited access to portions of registry and windows and programs files. If their trying to write to these it will write to their virtual folder and won't affect other users. Many of these concepts are in use by the other OS's but it's about time MS started catching up with the others. I know these aren’t the greatest features and it's probably a long time before its official but it's still interesting. Below is a link to a video demo by Patrick Norton that was played after the web cast. I'm posting a link on digg.com to my blog, cause digg isn't letting me post a link just to the video. I am apologizing for liking to my blog ahead of time, enjoy
 http://zdpub.vo.llnwd.net/o2/eseminarvista.wmv

My first post. Well I guess it's got to be a description about what you would expect to see here. I will discuss things that I like. Technology is numero uno here, I love computers, networking, software, hardware, and basically all types of electronics. I also have my opinions about security issues, viruses, spyware, hacking, and so on. I like gamming, PC games, consoles, and old stuff. I know I'm a little late on starting my blog, but ya go to start somewhere. Oh yah, I'll also use this to vent my frustration on various things. I have many tech stories too tell also, things that I come across in my day to day activates. Sit back, check back, we'll see how this goes.............Kepp Digg'in
